Madrid, capital de España, cuyo origen se estima que data de la invasión árabe de la península ibérica , esa es la ciudad que todos conocemos, pero no se puede decir lo mismo de sus leyendas. Hoy, queremos cambiar eso. Os vamos a explicar por qué a los madrileños nos llaman gatos (lo cual es una suerte, teniendo en cuenta la cantidad de animales estrafalarios que existen) si no tenemos ni garras ni bigotes. Vamos a viajar en el tiempo hasta el año 852, cuando la muralla que protegía la noble e insigne villa de Madrid /(entonces llamada Mayrit) se construyó. Esta ciudad sufrió varios asedios hasta que, en el año 1085, Alfonso VI y su ejército atacaron la ciudad. El problema era que, tras el último intento, se había reformado el muro, para entonces tenía doce metros de altura. Así que, Alfonso VI y su ejército se acercaron al muro de Mayrit una mañana. Poco después, un joven y valiente soldado se separó del grupo y comenzó a escalar la pared con la única ayuda de una daga. Cuando estaba en la parte superior del muro, la bandera islámica fue cambiada por una bandera cristiana, anunciando que el asedio debía comenzar. Esto le dio al ejército el impulso necesario para desatar hostilidades. La ciudad finalmente fue conquistada, y el soldado escaló con tal habilidad que incluso Alfonso VI exclamó: "Parecía un gato"; así que recibieron el apodo de “Gatos” él y su familia y, más tarde, así fue como todos aquellos cuyos padres y todos sus abuelos hubieran nacido en Madrid son conocidos. E, incluso hoy, una calle de Madrid lleva el nombre de este valiente soldado.
Madrid is the capital city of Spain. It is is estimated that it was founded during the Islamic invasion of Spain. That’s the city we all know, but not the same can be said about its legends. Today, we want to change that and we’re going to explain to you why people from Madrid are called cats (fortunately they aren’t called with the name of mice, moles or any other of those really ugly animals). But why are people of Madrid called like that if they don’t have paws or whiskers. Let’s go back in time, to the year 852, when the wall that protected the ville of Madrid, at that point called Mayrit, was built. This city suffered various assaults. In the year 1085 the King Alfonso VI and his army attacked the city. The problem was that, after the last siege attempt, the wall was reformed, being then twelve meters high.
Keeping that in mind we will continue with our story. Alfonso VI and his army approached one morning to Mayrit’s city wall. Then a brave young soldier separated from the main group and started to climb the wall with only a dagger. When he was at the top, the Islamic flag was changed by a Christian flag by him. This gave the army the jumpstart they needed. The city was finally conquered. The soldier had climbed with such an ability that even Alfonso VI said: “He looked like a cat”, so he and his family received the nickname of “Cats”, and later, everyone who had been born in Madrid, and whose parents and grandparents were born in the city were called cats. Even today, a street in Madrid has the name of this brave soldier.

Durante este proyecto hemos aprendido muchísimas cosas que esperamos recordar mucho tiempo. Entre ellas, se incluyen la cooperación, trabajo en equipo, manejo de la tecnología y buen uso del tiempo. También ha habido tiempo lúdico; sí, pero en su justa medida. Aquí podéis ver cómo se hizo este increíble proyecto.
