Se trata de un templo que rinde culto a San Ginés de Arles santo francés decapitado en 303. Se considera una de las iglesias más antiguas de Madrid construida alrededor de 1645 sobre las ruinas de lo que se piensa que fue una ermita mozárabe. La iglesia era de estilo neoplateresco (un estilo arquitectónico) pero tras ser destruida durante el transcurso de la guerra civil y otros múltiples sucesos fue remodelada con piedra y ladrillo. En su interior alberga grandes obras de arte de artistas de la talla de El Greco, Luca Giordano ...
Existen dos leyendas, pero la que os vamos a contar trata sobre un fantasma decapitado que vaga por justicia.
En 1353 unos ladrones que saqueaban la Iglesia en busca de joyas, ornamentos cálices... fueron sorprendidos por un anciano que había estado orando. El hombre de avanzada edad intentó detenerlos. Los ladrones no querían dejar testigos por lo que le decapitaron y dejaron su cabeza a los pies de la virgen. Tras este trágico acaecimiento un ente paranormal asociado al fantasma de la pobre víctima empezó a manifestarse con el único propósito de revelar la identidad de sus verdugos.
El homicidio trascendió por el reino hasta llegar a los oídos del rey Pedro 1 “el cruel” pero él no encontró a los susodichos. Por ello culpó a dos inocentes les tiró por un barranco. El fantasma sigue vagando por la iglesia por lo que la gente se dio cuenta que el rey había cometido un error.
In this church the French Saint Saint Gines de Arles, beheaded in 303, is worshipped. It is considered one of the oldest churches in Madrid . It was built around 1645 on the ruins of what is thought to have been a Mozarabic hermitage. The church was of neoplateresque style but after being destroyed during the course of the civil war it was remodelled using materials such as stones and bricks. Inside the church a great number of artworks by different artists such as El Greco or Luca Giordano can be seen.
There are two legends about this place but the one that we are going to tell you is about a decapitated ghost that wanders along the church looking for justice.
In 1353, some thieves who were looting the church were surprised by an old man who had been praying. The old man tried to stop them. The thieves didn't want to leave witnesses so they cut off his head and put it at the virgin's feet. After this tragic event, a paranormal entity associated with the ghost of the poor victim began to appear with the sole objective of revealing the identity of its executioners. People thought that it was a warning that the crime should be solved.
News of the murder spread across the kingdom, but King Pedro "I el cruel" could not find the culprits of the crime, so he accused and executed two innocent people. However the ghost came back and people started thinking that the king had made a mistake.
