LA POSADA DEL PEINE

The Posada del Peine is near the Plaza Mayor, exactly on the street of Postas 17. It is also the oldest hotel establishment in Madrid, founded in 1610 by Juan Posada, and amplified in 1796 by its new owners; the Espino brothers. This establishment today is a 4 star hotel where you can sleep for 95 € per night.The strange name of the hotel is due that in all its rooms there was an ivory comb tied to the sink, which normally was related to the high society. This place has two legends: the first is that the room 126 hid a tunnel that led to a lugubrious and wet room in which lovers, bandits, thieves or even politicians went to meet clandestinely. The other legend is a more frightening one. It is said that a shadow that wore black clothes, as if in mourning was seen. Scary, don’t you think? On one occasion, a waiter and a customer said that they clearly saw the being, and that the silhouette belonged to a woman. The stories tell that it is the ghost of a young woman who died hidden in one of the rooms, and who now hides in the supposed secret tunnels of the Posada del Peine, wandering through them without rest.
